Mobile GIS – Tree Inventory

Mapping Sustainability worked with the Urban Ecology Institute (UEI) and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department to inventory approximately 34,000 trees and tree pits within a 3-month time period for the entire city of Boston. During the summer of 2006 volunteers and interns used Mapping Sustainability’s Tree Inventory Software to collect data on tree health and species characteristics. Mapping Sustainability provided training at volunteer workshops and helped integrate the tree inventory with the Boston Parks Department's Work Order Management system for tree maintenance.

Mapping Sustainability's Tree Inventory software is easy-to-use, helps volunteers identify tree species, and has built-in Quality Control features. Our Mobile GIS Tree Inventory software runs on pocket or tablet PCs using ESRI’s ArcPad software. Our software automatically synchronizes daily tree inventory data from mobile devices with a central server database, such as ArcSDE. We also support data collection using GPS and differential correction. Our Mobile GIS Tree Inventory software is easily tailored to suite your specific data collection, maintenance, and work order management needs. It can integrate with existing Work Order Management systems or we can customize an ArcGIS Server Tree Work Order System that meets your specific needs.
