Mapping Sustainability developed an ArcGIS School Redistricting Scenario Model to perform on-the-fly calculations that determine the number of students affected by district changes. Our customized Scenario Model helped the School Advisory Committee have the new student counts available to them during their meeting, so that they could focus their decision-making on socioeconomic and other factors. We produced maps with student counts per building for school committee members to use to determine new boundaries. As a result, the new school districts were passed with only 2 public meetings, more easily than expected.
